The Modern Emergency Radio

Emergency radios have come a long way from what they were 20 - 30 years ago, but that doesn't mean that all emergency radios are created equal. Making sure that you have a radio that is up to the job is essential when planning a trip outdoors or being ready for extreme weather conditions. Included in the BSP-221 Survival Kit is the ER-310 Midland Radio. We chose this radio because of its reliability, durability, practicality and long list of great features.

Long gone are the days when you needed a dozen batteries to power a little radio with quiet speakers. The ER-310 is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It also has a solar power panel. No sun? No problem! It has a built-in hand crank. And if you really don't mind old fashioned batteries, the ER-310 can run off 6 AA batteries as well.

Exploring the great outdoors is a great way to unplug; however, being caught in a situation where you've wandered off the trails or you and your family are stuck at home without electricity, being connected is more important than ever. Whether it's for getting updates during a disaster or in need of medical assistance, the ER-310 will be very handy to have. This radio is both USB and USB Mini compatible, allowing you to charge your small devices and reduce the possibility of being completely cut off from others.

The ER-310 Radio supports AM/FM bands and is equipped with an NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) channel. This organization searches the skies as well as atmospheric conditions to issue major weather warnings and other disaster reports. The ER-310 comes with an electronic dog whistle that many emergency rescue team canine units are trained to hear.

Receiving and transmitting important information saves lives and brings people and communities together. Radios serve to remind us that even though we may live in different towns and travel different roads, we are all connected and are able to help each other should the opportunity arise.
